If you like history this is a good book. The things that happen in wartime is tragic. There are some brutal parts that were hard to read. The last chapter was about what happened to Germany after the war. Best to read Fall of Giants first because this is book 2. One more to go, and it will probably be a while before it is ready. This book took a lot of research. highly recommend to all who like history. If you like history this is a good book. The things that happen in wartime is tragic. this book became tiresome. I finally skipped a couple hundred pages and found out the search was still on, so skipped some more until Abby finally had a good lead to the girl. I felt all along the girl would be found. But things did not come together for Abby. the father would always remember her as the one who lost his daughter in the first place, even if she found her later. the story was fractured in places and hard to follow. I agree with gvlee, 2 story lines are not easy to follow. will not be recommending the book.this book became tiresome. It was an ok book. I have read a lot of her books and women are always the main characters. some of her women seem to be a little bit needy, like needing to share intimate details about their private lives. ick! where's the mystery in that? oh well, I have ordered her latest book so I must get something out of them!It was an ok book. I liked this book. I listened on CD and really liked the storyline. Very complex lives involved. I liked the way it ended, even though justice was not completely served. I have not read Exile but will order it immediately!

This is a sad story about the breakdown of a family. When the teenage son is suspected of a crime involving a 8 year old girl he was babysitting, his father has doubts about his son's innocence. He wants to protect his son but does not know how. The father came from a disfuncitional family and cannot form close family ties with his wife and son. Just as things are being resolved tradegy strickes. This book makes one realize how important close family relationships are to a happy and healthy family. I did like this book, but did not like the male character. He wanted to find out who had caused this young mans death but when he met the young mans sister he became totally obsessed with her. He was already in a committed relationship and was engaged. He wanted out of the relationship and the woman held on. She was sort of controlling, and had a way of ignoring the obvious, the fact the guy did not love her anymore. She was not a very admirable character. All said and done, they deserved each other.I did like this book, but did not like the male character. I liked this book. If you like to read about the paranormal and psychics this book is for you. This is the first time I have read such a story, but the story is not so far out that it is unbelievable. In other words the characters did not seem weird. A few were a bit creepy though. The ending was a bit of a surprise in certain aspects, but will say no more. I will read this author again.I liked this book. I finished this book but did not much like it. I read another book by this author and notice simular story lines. A troubled family in crisis and a young woman deeply disturbed who is no relation to the family. The father in the story is a novelist and the young girl is obsessed with him. I liked novel very much. The lack of communication between the parents and the pre-teen boy was heart-breaking. There was also bullying going on at school that was ignored and the boy did not share with his parents. Both parents, especially the husband had mega problems. The 5/6 year old daughter was a happy spirit, and the mother appeared to love her more than she did her son. There is a teenage girl in the book who had a lot of emotional problems. There was a phrase in the book that mentioned grace be "unmerited favor". I thought that was what happened at the end of this book. Although the ending was a bit rushed I find that to be the case in a lot of books I read. I will recommend this book and read others by this author.I liked novel very much. I had trouble getting into this book but kept reading. I agree about the criminal insanity in play all the way through. I thought the book was to long, it got more twisted as it went along. I have a lot to say about the characters and the ending but will refrain from posting it. Not just anyone's reading choice. I did not care for this book. A fourteen year old girl allowed to date an older teen, is that what is going on in the real world? Wow, am I behind the times! She and her toxic girlfriend playing "party games" with the boys hoping to get her boyfriend back? Most of the parents in Piocults books have it together better then the ones in this book. I have read a lot of her books and most of them are very thought provoking and at times extremely sad. Maybe I was having an ""off" day when I read this, but I was disappointed.I did not care for this book. I listened to this book on CD. Started out listening in my car, but it was so interesting I would take it into the house and listen to it while I ate, cleaned house and whatever else I needed to do in the house. I liked all the dfferent characters, some I really liked and some I could have punched in the face for their actions. Looking forward to book two, already have it on order at the library. I liked this book but not as well as the first one. I thought it was going to be a trilogy, and now I read there will be five books! Of course I will read all of them. By the time the 3rd one is published I am not sure I will remember the details of the first two books! Archer has a way of making the characters seem real (because they do some of the dumb things we all do at times in our lives). Easy to relate to the characters, and that is what makes a good book.I liked this book but not as well as the first one.
