This was a lot of fun, and I genuinely couldn't put it down. I'm a mid-level geek with a moderate interest in most of the things mentioned in the novel. From that perspective all the little hat-tips and winks were quite enjoyable. The one downside for me was that Wade is a pretty unlikeable character. His infatuation with Art3mis is cringeworthy. Were it not for the fact that she challenges him on it a few times, I would have stopped reading long before the end. Still, I would have preferred that she either really tore in to him for the ways in which his infantile crush was presented, or that Cline had made Wade less of a douche all round. It would have been cool to have more action in the real world - especially given the exhortation at the end for Wade to spend more time in it. Also, him running around as a high level warrior Mage for most of the story kinda robs us of any real sense that he is ever in danger - having more action in the real world could have upped the stakes, since there he is just a vulnerable kid.
