The Hero of Ages

Book Three of Mistborn

The genuinely epic Mistborn Trilogy draws to a profoundly satisfying close. It is clear that the author put in a massive amount of work before he even started writing, as the world-building, various systems of superpowers, and dramatic reveals seems genuinely airtight. After so many massive bombshells, changing so much about what you initially thought was going on in the first 2 books, I was compelled to go back and listen to the entire series a second time. The number of subtle moments of foreshadowing, the number of details from the beginning of book one that seamlessly fit into everything revealed in the final book, show this author to be a master of his craft. Fully worth listening to twice, despite the deep complexity and enormous length, this series has established itself as one of my absolute favorites. The only part I didn't enjoy (and to be fair, the reader is not SUPPOSED to enjoy this part), was the profound and painful crisis of faith and deep depression that a beloved character struggles with throughout. But, as with the rest of the story, the end of this painful but important subplot is deeply satisfying. This story is massive, often brutal, and quite dark, but like the characters the reader needs to forge ahead.
