Maurice Sendak’s unmistakable illustrative style shows a variety of ursines tumbling alongside this simple tone poem, an iteration of almost a single word as a very familiar boy chases after an envious dog and his ill-gotten prize. It’s a book meant to appeal to very young children, especially those in footie pajamas, who are still clutching on to their scraggly ragged, well-loved fluffy toys.
