A first rate biography of a remarkable and fascinating woman whose work has perhaps fallen into neglect but deserves revival. Highly readable and entertaining.

Superb biography of the 20th century's most neglected great writer - poet, novelist, short stories, diarist, correspondan. Lesbian, communist and atheist, she had according to John Updike, 'the spiritual digestion of a goat" meaning, I think, no human experience was foreign to her sympathy. Technically, she could do anything she wanted, though some have mistakenly focused too much on her ironic side.
