A contemporary tale of Snow White where nothing is as it seems. For fans of Once Upon a Time, Pinborough also has a version of Sleeping Beauty too.

Interesting premise, but the storyline was very disjointed. Luckily it is a short read.

Poison is a wonderfully twisted retelling of the classic Snow White tale. It also feature a few cameos from other classic fairy tale characters.

It was good but most of the book was just like the original. The only difference was it was quite sexual & the mention of Aladdin, Hansel & Gretal. And the ending who could forget the ending...sums it all up to the Prince is an ass!

12/07 - While I'm enjoying the story it's not a new twist on the original Snow White - it's very similar to the ABC tv show Once Upon a Time. So much so that it almost feels as if some of the ideas (the Evil Queen being evil because of her upbringing; Snow White being less of the dainty, perfect princess and more competent and able to take care of herself) are borrowed from the show. It's a bit disconcerting... To be continued...

14/07 - A few pages after my last review, 2 days ago, Poison (fortunately) started to differ from its close similarities to Once Upon a Time. But there were still some thematic similiarities in that in both stories no one is who they seem, that the original story was a sugar-coated version of what really happened. It was a reasonable retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but I think Once Upon a Time is better. The characters are better drawn in the show, in the book Pinborough just seems to have picked the traits or behaviours that are opposite to the original story, but not necessarily something the character would genuinely have done if they were real people instead of Disney characters.
