Mayhem comes to Fargo in the form of Lorne Malvo, the gleefully sinister malefactor played by Billy Bob Thornton.

As usual, the Coen brothers offer a clever and darkly humorous production. Unfortunately, it overflows with gratuitous violence and redundant scenes that seem to be included for no other reason than the filmmakers fell in love with them.

From the very start, from the opening shot of the cold dark icy road and the background music starting to play, I knew this would be something different, something awesome.

Coming from someone who hasn't watched the 1996 film by the Coen brothers, I really didn't know what to expect. I was in a way wondering if I was just wasting my time and watching a series that would fall short of everyone's expectations and just flop, like so many other TV series do nowadays. However, that didn't happen at all but holy dang. This is officially on my top few favorite shows, it is perfect. Every factor about it is just insanely brilliant and original. Billy Bob and Martin Freeman both give POWER performances, and by far the best in their career. The dark humor is hilarious, and the story is perfectly told and executed. The darkness of the whole story, fantastic writing and acting made me kind of obsessive about watching. Beware, this story is dark, clever, nail-biting, and full of suspense. However, it always has an undertone of the appreciation and desire of the basic warmth and love of humanity - what most of the characters in the community live, work and strive for. The Direction is awesome, the music is amazing.

Billy Bob Thornton imbues "Lorne Malvo" with chilling subtlety, and a clandestine evil almost beyond comprehension. One is fascinated, repulsed, and spell bound by his animalistic, predatory, cold-blooded cleverness... always one beat in front of the "good folks" in any town he sets his blood thirsty claws in. Martin Freeman's "Lester Nygaard" is played to perfection with all the nuances a brilliant actor can bring to a role. Freeman's brilliant Nygaard is at first a sympathetic victim, turned perpetrator, and transformed into a slimy opportunist... a hyena in the making. Allison Tolman's "Molly Solverson" is pitch perfect, and expertly executed so that every nuance of Molly is portrayed in a compelling way. Almost like a conductor of an orchestra, Tolman has the pulse of all the "instrumentalists" in the community, under her baton. Although the "orchestra" of characters go off on their wayward tangents, and ignore the larger picture of the symphony at hand, Tolman stays the course with Molly, in an awesome way, to bring all the notes together in a jaw-dropping 9th and 10th episode.

In addition to the three main leads, the father, husband, daughter, police chief, FBI agents, Food Chain owner, and several other characters who appear in multiple episodes, are so spectacular that ALL should've been nominated for Emmy Awards. I watched the entire series literally at the edge of my seat.

By turns touching, hilarious, and terrifying, Fargo Season 1 is a riveting meditation on the nature of evil (among other things). Full of strange moments of Zen-like beauty, hilarious but enraging insights into the banality of existing power structures, and the fragility of love and family, it unfolds like a dream ... but one shaped by a relentless logic. Beautifully acted by a magically cast ensemble of brilliant actors, it will keep you guessing and hoping until its last moments. 10/10!

The series takes place in a different town with different people. Each season surrounds the hunt for a killer or killers and, like the movie Fargo, shows the stupidity of people at their worst. In season 1, a paid assassin happens upon a regular Joe on the worst day of his life. He intervenes, trying to make things better, but makes everyone woefully worse. In fact, his advice turns that little man into a serial killer too. The rest of the season is catching both killers and the chance encounters they have with random people who eventually combine to get them caught.

Marge is an awesome character. You must watch this just to see her.

Despite the fact that the series are totally different that the feature film but it has some nostalgic similarities that is more like a deja vu. Great characters, story, set up and it's very real and catchy.

Started to lose interest in the murder and mayhem toward the end. Some plot points e.g. Vegas were even raised and then never really explained. The show was good but probably two episodes too long and nowhere near as quirky/funny as the film.

Wow! This was really great! I never watched the movie before but I will if it's as half as good. I did however watch the second season before. It's a prequel starring Patrick Wilson as the younger version of Keith Carradine's character.

This is definitely a binge-watch. You can't stop at the end of an episode so get the bags of chips and drinks links lined up. I liked miniseries even more than the classic movie.
