I was very disappointed in this story line as it reeked of 1950's thinking in regards to women and feminism. The main character who is portrayed as immature and easily influenced gives up her dream job to be with her father figure man, who was a seminal part of her growing up. It is not only a creepy progression of events, it is a terrible portrayal of a woman. It seems that it ends all happily ever after and that makes little sense given the storyline. The book has really turned me off this author. She writes well and would be great if she could portray women as less stupid and manipulable. It is ok to do that if one is constructing a truly insightful novel, which this one is not.

Giffin's books seem to deal with situations that not everyone may like but they happen. I enjoyed this book in spite of the situation that arises..don't want to give the story away.
I have enjoyed each of her books that I have read. A book is read for enjoyment, to learn something and to teach you things among other reasons. They aren't necessarily meant for you to make judgement calls. Libraries give you the opportunity to choose books you want to read and if you don't like what they say, you can return them. I thought this was a great story and whether the reader agrees or likes the outcome or not, it is their choice.

I read about two chapters before I decided I could not read anymore. I knew what was going to happen and I just think it's creepy. I'm sure it happens, but not for my taste.... Still love her books.

Library: the summary of this book is really off. Walker is the name of the town where the main character lives, not a family in the story. The main character also is not "planning to marry into" any particular family.

I loved this book. The author did a great job developing the characters so that the main character's relationship with the recently widowed football coach made total sense.

I think if the characters had no history, if he wasn't her father-figure growing up, this may have been a less creepy read.

I agree with most of these posts. Really was not a fan of the storyline or the ending. The whole thing was just too creepy.

I do not recommend this book to anyone. The story was very disturbing. I always loved Emily's books but I feel like she's hit a brick wall with this one. I did enjoy all of the football references, being a fan of the sport and all.

This was so creepy...a fresh widower, who the main character is basically raised by, who she calls "Coach", and he calls "Girl", fall in love. SO GROSS!!
And he is also the father of her best is a terrible story where you end up rooting against the characters.

Sadly, I found this book quite boring. I have read quite a few of her books and loved them all. This one was not what I expected. It was pretty much all about football, as in the American kind. So if you like football, I think you will really enjoy this book!

I've found the story to be somewhat disturbing.
