As a straight-A student with a budding romance and loyal best friend, M.T.'s life seems as apple-pie American as her blondish hair and pale skin. But M.T. hides two facts to the contrary: her full name of Monserrat Thalia and her status as an undocumented immigrant. With senior year of high school kicking into full swing, M.T. sees her hopes for a ?normal" future unraveling. And it will take discovering a sense of trust in herself and others for M.T. to stake a claim in the life that she wants. Author Maria E. Andreu draws from her personal experience to tell a story that is timely, relevant.

A touching novel that really brought me to tears at times. M.T. is an undocumented immigrant who doesn't look like one on the outside, and she has friends who take her as someone who fits in. I love the simplicity in this novel, as it moves through a life of a girl who just wants to be happy and be in a loving place. Her family matters (with her abusive father) certainly don't make things easier. Definitely recommend to anyone, since we can all learn from this novel.

M.T. is an undocumented person as is the rest of her family. She struggles each day to keep up appearances in order to fit in. Eventually secrets have a way of coming out, but is M.T. ready to face her fears. I would recommend this book to teens and adults.
