Alice is an Outsider trying to find her way in a crazy new world. Julius is the Clockmaker, shunned by other role-holders and living like a hermit. Both have shut away their hearts behind walls of thorny vines. But when a meddling outside force turns those metaphorical thorns into something very real, both Alice and Julius must confront their own hearts and admit what they really feel. Otherwise, they could both remain trapped in the labyrinth of thorns forever!

Follow Alice, Ace, and Julius in this charming story set in the Country of Hearts, as they navigate their way through a maze like no other.

This was another great addition to the Alice in the Country of Hearts series. I really enjoy getting to see different sides of the various characters. This volume focuses on the relationship between Alice and Julius as well as the friendship between both Ace & Julius as well as Ace & Alice. I look forward to reading more about these characters in the future.

The Alice in the Country of... series are adaptions based on the otome (maiden) games of the same name. Each installment places the lead character Alice amongst a reverse-harem where her decisions change so that she becomes romantically involved with a different character for that story. Loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, the original six volume set, Alice in the Country of Hearts, explains her arrival and introduces us to the entire cast. The standalone Love Labyrinth of Thorns quickly recaps these events before presenting an alternate version of the Alice/Julius relationship. As a romance, it doesn't stray far from the tried and true, and sadly, it adds little to the world. This Alice is a much weaker character than in some of the other stories. She passively reacts to the situation, and even gets classically saved by the "prince". Julius' actions are much the same as in the Clockmaker's Story, but feel hollower, and somewhat cheesy in comparison. For this version, the art has a cuter look with softly rounded edges. Screentones, although used properly, have little impact on our emotions because the story is quite generic. Even for a single volume, the pace remains consistently natural, and every title from this series has the same quality writing. A reader's enjoyment of any one volume depends entirely on their own character preferences.
