I thought the theme was a bit too familiar: women's two cents dismissed, domestic violence, women's friendships, but it had a new twist to it. It wasn't Nancy Drew, but Nancy Drew times four. I'm not a big fan of the super sleuths, never read a Nancy Drew book, but I enjoyed this DVD.

This season has 2 2-episode stories rather than 1 3-episode like season 1. The second episode of this season was for sure better than episode 1 of season 2 however neither was as good as season 1. For some reason, this series lost its' mojo between seasons 1 and 2. I know there is a season where they are in San Francisco but I don't think we will watch that one.

Cracking a Killer's Code (Seasion One): Excellent! The series addressed two issues that we continue to deal with today, first, that some returning, highly trained military personnel (WWII here, in our lives now, endless war) continue to serve the common good, and others, mentally unfit to serve but taken anyway, or horribly traumatized by war and deviant in nature, wreak havoc on innocent people after coming home. And second, as always, the treatment of women as an untrustworthy, devalued underclass. Better now than it was in the early 1950's, certainly, but plenty of condescension that modern women can relate to and modern men wince at. Flawless acting, costuming and period settings, and a great plot!

Season 2: Excellent! Ranks close to "Hidden Figures", providing a new perspective on WWII and post-war England, including Part 1 about actual nerve gas experiments the British Military carried out on its own members. Excellent writing, acting, camerawork and period recreation.

An enjoyable post war mystery solved by ignored but talented and ambitious women. The social attitudes towards women of the time is well represented.

Too many dark scenes. Rapist on the train did not look like the killer at the end? Interesting how they found killer's hideout.

Season 1--I was familiar with the SOE and code girls after having read a couple of historical accounts about them --each book several hundred pages worth. I found this series to be quite interesting and surprisingly so did my husband. Also deals with the mental changes that people can have in a war setting. The acting is very good, very convincing.

Watched Season 2 in June 2019...found it to be even more action packed. 5 stars as well.

Before watching this series, I had never heard of Bletchley Park or the codebreakers who worked there during World War II. The whodunit was decent, but the real dramatic intrigue for me was watching these amazingly intelligent and quick witted former codebreaker women struggle to adjust to domestic civilian life and have to keep the secret of their wartime heroism. Susan especially has a hard time conforming to the old pre-war women belong in the home social order. These women don't stay silent and compliant for long. They make themselves just as indispensable in the shadows, as in the war, using their codebreaking skills to catch an emotionally damaged serial killer.

PBS's series are good. This one was quite up to par. The women who worked at Bletchley were very intelligent. This wasn't shown very well. It was only mildly suspenseful but was a good watch. Would recommend it to anyone.

Very good film. There are effective women; just very few, so hard to find. Too many like Merkel the jerkel.

Susan: All those troops are on the move now because of us. Not bad for a few ordinary girls in a tin hut ... Why are you laughing?
Millie: "Ordinary girls". You couldn't be ordinary if you tried.
Susan: When this is over, won't we have to be ordinary?
Millie: I won't let you.
