Probably very handy for a newlywed, but not so much for empty-nesters. With nearly no exceptions the recipes call for wheat flour, bread crumbs, milk, tomatoes , potatoes, or nuts. So if you are eating healthy (no grains/nightshades/milk/nuts) or on a special diet, there is little here of interest. For example, this Miso Soup has 2030mg of sodium. Their version of Chinese Chicken Salad has 330 calories and 1750mg sodium (almost double from my old recipe and 250mg above my daily sodium maximum), and their deserts are all over 300 calories per serving (or 1/5 my total caloric intake for one day). When I found a low sodium recipe, like Spanish-style skillet brown rice and chickpeas (yes 890mg sodium is "Low" in this collection) the calories were high at 440 per serving. So overall:
1 helpful tips on cooking, how to chop, how to seed, and such.
2. okay but not great recipes for young, healthy people who can still eat 3,000 calories a day and don't have to monitor their sodium intake.
3. Not really what people are looking for in the US today as it makes no effort to avoid the foods that people are trying to avoid and makes no effort to reduce sugar, salt, or fat.

America's Test Kitchen is also known as the Anal Retentive Chef Kitchen in our house. Tedious steps, excessive prep. Some methods do make the best foods, other recipes just annoy.

Five Stars! America’s Test Kitchen does not disappoint. We found this title to be a great read with the traditional ATC features like “why this recipe works”. It also includes new features like full color photos and full page features on shopping and storing smarter. Recipes really make the perfect amount for two and 17 chapters cover everything from breakfast to dessert. The index was not always the most intuitive but we forgave this title quickly after tasting these great recipes. There are tons of veggie options included. With fun tips and tricks on almost every page, we recommend this title for both cookbook readers and cooks alike.

Just a great book with so many smart, easy-to-follow recipes. I almost want to rate this poorly so no one else discovers how easy America's Test Kitchen makes it to cook delicious food. :)

This book needs a different type of binding, and I called America's Test Kitchen to say so. Otherwise, it's useful to have around if you're cooking for one or two people and get tired of eating lots of leftovers or halving recipes.
