Sad movie, arrogant parents not even married fighting over a child they did not even deserve to have. The little girl was really a good actress.Glad the kid didn't end up in the judicial system. To slow and depressing.Left you hanging without a real ending.
This movie was ok. I didn't like the ending. The child was the better actress.
Brilliant and moving!
Excellent child acting.
Realistic movie about what children go through when self-absorbed parents fight over custody. Slow moving & low energy. I don't know if step-parents behaving better than biological parents is realistic.
very sweet family movie! a movie about awesome stepparents that step up to the plate.
I enjoyed the movie...the little girl was so cute. It made me wish that the "step parents" were her real parents instead of the "screwed" up parents she had...I felt so sorry for the little girl. I didn't like the ending, though.
Henry James lite. Though in fairness to the producers, some audience members can't handle even this much reality, if it involves children. The film can't be faulted for its acting, or for its update of a fight for, or a fight to be rid of one little girl. However, a film can't reveal Maisie's thoughts, and she is reduced to reacting, rather than, as in the book, acting for herself. In addition, the directors have a thing about "not losing the audience", which, in their minds, means the characters "not going beyond the bounds of forgivability." In other words, the characters are softened, and SPOILERS Maisie gets a relatively conventional happy ending. This is just believable, as Maisie's story ends at age six, rather than as a young teenager. Good luck with your pretty young family, Maisie. You'll forget your parents. They were hurting, too. And look, you have a turtle!
Good acting, but it somehow fails to grab you.
Marriage and its troubles through the eyes of a child....a truly moving film!
