Informative, well done documentary about two fans searching for the truth about a mysterious musician they listened to in South Africa. I'd suggest this one to anyone who is a music fan.

Sixto Rodriguez failed as a young singer in the early 1970s, but managed to scrape by making a living for the next 40 years working as a day labourer in Detroit. Unbeknownst to him, he had been and still was a Superstar in South Africa. Watch the unbelievable story unfold as the documentarians try to trace how he died and their shocking subsequent discoveries. Witness his triumphant sold-out concert in South Africa and finally his return home. Truly life is sometimes stranger than fiction! ( Submitted by Melanie)

My girlfriend thought it was terrific story about a man with a lot of talent. I was tired and fell asleep and woke up in time to enjoy the last 15 minuets.

A truth is stranger than fiction documentary. What if you were a superstar and didn't know it? I came away from watching this with a lot of respect for Sixto Rodriguez.

In many ways humble subject had a more fulfilling life than his peers.
It's rare to have a happy ending for the two intrepid fans.

A gem! I really wasn't expecting much from this film, but the reviews and comments persuaded me to watch it anyway. As it turns out, it's an engrossing, and genuinely astonishing tale, and a well crafted documentary -- part biography, part detective story -- that really grabbed my attention. Fully deserving of its Academy Award. Kudos to the first-time filmmaker! I'm looking forward to getting hold of Rodriguez' CD's.

Brilliant storytelling and cinematography. I will be revisiting this film again and again. Highly recommend watching the bonus clip of how the film was made. Rodriguez has been to Edmonton a few times, latest of which was summer of 2017!

A fascinating documentary about a Detroit folk singer of the 80's (his voice sounds like a combination of Dylan and Don McLean) who never found a following in a North America but became a legend in South Africa
