Although not published until 2010, 'The Sea is My Brother' was Jack Kerouac's first novel, written in 1942. Fans of Kerouac's other books like 'On the Open Road', and 'Big Sur' were delighted when this lost novel was posthumously released.

The book is OK. Just because it was written in 1943. Otherwise it holds little interest and should have been titled: My Brother is at the bottom of the bottle. It's the beginning of the "On the Road" philosophy of the Great Escape. The discourses are dated and staled by our 2012 eyes ( communism, capitalism, the Brotherhood of Man...) The book ends with the preacher-baker down-poring his swill as the boat continues its trek. I wonder what kind of novels Kerouac would be writing if he were still among us and did not die at 47 years old (of you know what...)
