Read the book, Soft in the Head, by Marie-Sabine Roger. It's even more charming than the film.

I loved the characters in this movie! This is a wonderful story about a man who has always been looked down upon and an elderly woman who befriends him and shares her love of books with him.

One of the most beautiful and gentle depictions of an unlikely friendship that I have ever seen on film. Considered the "village idiot", Gerard begins to visit with a 95 year-old woman who reads in a park. As she shares her passion for books with him, Gerard finds his own value and in turn enriches the life of the old woman in a way he never could have imagined. A perfect definition of friendship and love. bookwoman & Abby Tabby

I liked very much, not at all what I expected. A bit unbelievable but sweet film. Sorry it in French, iPad not cooperating today.

Except for some bad language, this is a sweet movie. Now I must read the book. I love the poem Gerard reads at the end.

A delightful gem of a movie.

Beautiful, sweet, charming, heartfelt story about a "love" affair between a clumsy, awkward, uncomfortable Germain (Gerard Depardieu) and the gentle, fragile, elderly Margueritte (Gisele Casadesus). This story gives us the opportunity to watch their relationship blossom, Margueritte find companionship, and Germain to grow and to trust in himself.

Un petit bijou de film! Tendre et joli, sans être mièvre. En plus, il est court (80 minutes).
