If you want to try sewing without a pattern, this is the book for you. Ten basic pieces with a half dozen variations for each. Comfort increases with each one made, and really opens the doors to creativity.
For those who care more about personalization and less about haute couture precision, this book is excellent. By emphasizing that the pieces, even pictured, are not 'perfect' Martin encourages sewers of all ages and skills to try their hand at creating their projected image using easy techniques and intriguing features.
I cannot recommend the pants, though - they look unflattering (mind you, I didn't make a pair, so take that with a grain of salt), but the tops and skirts are fun and easy.
