A controversial look at the headline-making story of the last Western prisoner at Guantanamo Bay and the larger implications to national security, justice, and international relations.
Omar Khadr is the last Western prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre. He has been held at the American naval base since October 2002, accused of killing a U.S. sergeant in Afghanistan. Khadr was fifteen at the time. His defence team argued that their client was a child soldier and should be treated as a victim. After several years of procedural wrangling, Khadr went before a U.S. military court. In October, he pled guilty, in an agreement that allows him to be transferred to Canada after one year.
This controversial new book will be published to coincide with Omar Khadr's return to Canada in late 2011. It will include shocking information about the Khadr family, Khadr's psychological assessment, and his trial that has often been ignored in the mainstream media. Challenging the conventional wisdom about the Khadr case, The Enemy Within is a provocative look at the definition of "child soldier," life at Guantanamo Bay, the media coverage of the case, a tainted plea bargain, and the Canadian government's plan for Omar Khadr's rehabilitation upon his return to Canada.
In this hard-hitting book, Ezra Levant also uses Khadr's story to address larger questions about how Canadians view immigration, terrorism, law and justice, and Canada's relationship with the United States.

The book could use a good editor to tighten it up, but overall, the book points out the painful truths about how this teenage killer was and is coddled by the Canadian government.

Ezra Levant is a third-rate intellectual clown, and this book shows just how. No need to watch him embarrass himself in public fora. Read this and see for yourself a man overwhelmed by his own rightwing biases who's thereby rendered unable to look at the facts in the case.

Should be required reading at all Canadian law schools to show how inept hillbilly Canada is at identifying and prosecuting Muslim terrorists!

B/c Canada has never bothered to charge the al Qaeda super-agent for terror and war crimes, few Canadians appreciate the truth. Khadr is but one of a committed and notorious Muslim terror crime family, who have manipulated and used Canada for decades.

Levant has done his homework assiduously on this one in an effort to correct the fake new media propaganda that turned Khadr, a Gtmo rock star equivalent, into a victim. First, at 15, he was nothing like the African child soldiers kidnapped and forced to pick up a gun. UN protection extends only to those younger than 15. Second, al Qaeda doesn't qualify as real military, so it can't be said he was simply acting like any soldier on the battle field. Terrorists don't qualify for UN protection. Also, as he was well aware, US soldiers had cleared his compound of civilians when he threw his grenade. He could have left with them. He was equally aware that the Americans always returned after a fire fight to assess and gather the dead and injured.

The key issue to take from the book is that the US prosecuted Khadr under common law very similar to ours and sentenced him to 40 years. Canada should at least have seen the evidence against him before accepting the secret deal cobbled together by Obama and Crooked Clinton, who were anxious to get rid of Khadr to appease the anti-war leftards.

It seems to me that much of the media in this country reports the news from a left leaning perspective. This is what drew me to reading this book. I was hoping to learn the cold hard facts of this case not influenced by a left wing bias. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this book which raised some interesting points on the Khadr case but left me feeling unclear as to what the truth is behind this story because of the author's clearly one-sided perspective .

Finally, someone in the Canadian media gives us an accurate look at Omar Khadr, the crown prince of al Qaeda. Contrary to what you might read in the Toronto Star, little Omar was not some innocent kid or "child soldier" but a brutal killer and devoted follower of Osama Bin Laden. But since he is a Canadian of convenience, using his passport as a get-out-of-jail-free card, little Omar has learned from a young age how to game the system. And it's not surprising that this terrorist has played the Canadian left like a fiddle for years. Kudos to Ezra Levant for writing this book, which should be required reading for anyone who is concerned about terrorism. Particularly interesting was the chapter about Dr. Michael Welner, a respected forensic psychiatrist who interviewed Khadr at length and concluded that he is perhaps the most dangerous person to ever step foot inside Guantanamo.

Oh, and to the "reviewers" who post negative web links about the author instead of explaining why they disagree with him, how about you actually try reading the book. But then again, that would require you to think, which is a tall order for the left, so I won't hold my breath.

People who did not read a book should not give opinion about it, nor rate it. Since it doesn't apply here, I'm giving it five stars.

This is an excellent and factual account of the Omar Khadr situation in Canada. I was shocked at the actual FACTS surrounding "Gitmo" (as opposed to the media's portrayal of the facility).

Every Canadian should acquaint themselves with the facts within this book, and re-think the "opinions" expressed by our media, the Canadian Bar Association, and the socialists in Canada. Keep an open mind, read the actual facts, make up your own mind and draw your own conclusions.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the subsequent years after Mr. Khadr's release into Canadian society.
