I love this book - it's a great start to the Nancy Drew series!

The first Nancy Drew story published, The Secret of the Old Clock is a light-hearted mystery for all ages. The group of authors writing under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene share a talent for producing a story inspiring for young women at the same time as it is fun and light. Nancy is an outgoing and confident young woman, blessed with equal parts intelligence and compassion, who has a knack for solving small mysteries (with a little help from her lawyer dad). When some new friends share their story of woe, Nancy is determined to serve out justice… even if it takes a little sleuthing. Nancy's self-sufficiency, as well as the overwhelming presence of supportive female friendship, is empowering for young women, while her independence can also get a little trying at times. However, it is not unlike many teenagers, so it works well with the story. Enjoyable for ages 10-100 (or perhaps younger, for proficient readers)!

The Secret of the Old Clock is a classic juvenile mystery. Nancy the 18 year old sleuth is an adventurous, independent, and compassionate teen.
This is a complete story, but the first of many books. Nancy becomes involved in a mystery of a new acquaintance’s relative’s second will. She meets several new people to find her clues. There are dangerous situations she becomes involved in. In the end, she uncovers the mystery to many people’s advantage.
I like Nancy’s character, she is kind and self reliant. Not overly so, she also has strong connections to her father and their housekeeper.
At times I felt that her father was a bit relaxed about the danger Nancy was putting herself in.
Overall this was an enjoyable story, I regret not reading this series as a young teen. 📖

Fun series. I am on The Mystery of the Ivory Charm. I have read books 1-6 twice! These books are good, but often you don't feel too bad when you have to put them down to go back to ordinary life :)

I think that it is a good engaging detective/mystery solving story. However, because it was written in an older time period, younger audience may find the settings of the story a bit hard to understand and not very relevant.

This is my review for the whole series:

I agree with SPPL_Kristen. Nancy Drew is a fun, entertaining series that will keep you guessing as to who the criminal is and why. Although the books got a little repetitive after a while, I still enjoyed each excellent mystery following the adventures of Nancy and her friends. Some were better than others, and most were pretty good. There were only a few that I disliked (like #53: The Sky Phantom).

They're definitely formulaic and the writing gets really wonky in places, but these books are fun and inspiring and I've got a huge soft spot for them and the entertainment they gave 12 year old me.

I love these original Nancy Drews. There so fun and I can't wait to read the next one.

Nancy Drew's first detective story!
Nancy, in trying to help a poor girl living with her aunts, gets a lot more than she bargained for. She is tasked with finding the will of a man who recently passed away. And if she fails, all off the mans money will go to an already well-off family, with two rude sisters, who already count on getting the money. She makes some very good friends, does a little sleuthing, and has a blast.
