VERY GOOD 1940 Hollywood comedy/musical celebrating USA/world's emerging fascination with South America and the several mixtures of European, African, and native culture contributing to it's music, song, and dance.
The plot itself is a little thin, but the film work, music, singing and dance carry the day; terrific post-horse race party sequence at the end with great staging/costuming/dresses, etc.
Now I've recently seen her in a couple older musicals and I did enjoy Charlotte Greenwood's role as Binnie Crawford (Betty Grable character's mother), especially her song/dance at the village fiesta - 'Sing To Your Senorita'. Carmen Miranda was fun, too - hamming it up for the camera, as usual.
And Betty Grable's grey fur top dress she wore to the big hotel celebration was particularly good.

What a deceiving and misleading movie!
Why is Carmen Miranda performing typical Brazilian dances in a movie about Argentinean way? No wonder some people still think Buenos Aires is in Brazil!
It seems that the director didn't even bother to do a minimal research on the culture.
