While this isn't one of my favorite things Steve Martin has done, he makes it work better than anyone else could. Roxanne is a relatively modern (1987) retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac (1897). Steve Martin adapted and wrote the screenplay. It has some nice moments and funny running gags, including the blundering fire department team and Martin's character's acrobatics. Roxanne is rated PG.

A great movie from my favorite year of movies: 1987.

If you are in the mood for a nostalgic 80's romantic comedy that does not take itself too seriously and you don't plan on taking the film too seriously - Steve Martin is your man

Anything by Steve Martin is probably a good bet, but this tale of a small town fire chief, his haplessly inept team, and his rivalry with a younger but much dumber stud for a beautiful neighbor is particularly appealing. That's it's based on the classic love story Cyrano de Bergerac doesn't hurt!
