Quoted on the back of the book is "The Times" saying, "writes prose like a poet." I agree. tookme longer to read because there were many phrases to savor. I did keep thinking that somehow all the different stories/characters would be brought together somehow. Perhaps the idea was that each was a scene of various people who had their lives influenced by the big snow. I also wondered if I saw that each of the main characters was lonely and that could have been a theme. though I could not exactly work in the school master, but all the rest had inner dream life in which they longed for something/one that could not have.
