Oh gosh, where do I begin? Let's say you really liked someone and you are pretty sure they liked you too. Now let's say you pursued that relationship and it worked out. Your a couple. It's working out great and you are on top of the world and you want to let the whole world know but your significant other wants to keep you a secret, would this bother you? Would you agree to dating on the down low? Could you fully trust this person? Love is powerful, especially when you give yourself fully to someone else and you know they've done the same for you. But when you don't know this for sure it can eat you up from the inside. This is the premise of this story. I really enjoyed the story line and the affection between the two main characters however I felt they weren't as fleshed out as they could have been but other than that this was a really good read.

Worth reading

I, on so many many levels know exactly what's going on here with Holland and Cece. It feels like the book is almost an embodiment of the souls of so many lgbtqi individuals.

I 110% understand the struggle when you know who you are better than others, and yet are forced to remain hidden for no reason other than for your safety.

After reading "Kissing Kate" last week, which was surprisingly dated and disappointing on the salience of the LGBTQ issues and relationships front, this book was a lovely read. Peters' novel was absolutely ground breaking when it came out, there simply weren't many queer girl books available at the time.

The main character is a swimmer and general over achiever. Her mom supports / pressures her to go to a good college and to live a life better than hers was. While this is understandable - parents want what is best for their children - the weight of the expectations makes it hard for Holland to live her own life, and even to figure out what she wants in life. Not an easy thing for someone discovering their sexuality. The relationship is well developed, with solid characterization, and the supporting characters, while not super duper dramatically developed, serve their purposes just fine. The story takes place amidst school-related homophobia, and alongside long-term friendships going through the changes that take place with growing up. It was a good read, with complex people where stereotypes are interrogated and, unlike "Annie on my Mind," the lovers do get to stay together, even though getting to that point has a lot of challenges.

I love this book so much. Somehow I wish both Holland and Cece were real and happy.

A very quick read, finished it in a couple of hours. Very interesting to get inside the head of a girl so confused about her sexuality. A good book for teens and also for opening up discussions about sexuality.
