What can I say about Harry Potter? This is a timeless classic, the kind of book you can pick at any time, at any age, no matter how many times you've read it, and enjoy. The plot follows a young boy named Harry Potter, who is raised in a neglected home. He learns he is a wizard and travels to the magnificent Hogwarts, school of witchcraft. Truly amazing story.

Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone is the first in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series of seven novels that have made her the most successful literary author of all time, selling in excess of 400 million copies world-wide. The books are read and enjoyed by children and adults alike and have also been made into hugely popular films.
Do the Harry Potter books live up to the hype?
When I first began reading the Sorcers stone I was immediately struck by how good - and laugh-out-loud funny - the humour was.
Here is an example, with the ending being particularly good:
"Harry was frying eggs by the time Dudley arrived in the kitchen with his mother. Dudley looked a lot like Uncle Vernon. He had a large, pink face, not much neck, small, watery blue eyes and thick, blond hair that lay smoothly on his thick, fat head. Aunt Petunia often says that Dudley looks like a baby angel – Harry often said that Dudley looks like a pig in a wig."
Harry Potter and the Sorcers Stone: The Vanishing Glass
There are characters in this book that will remind us of all the people we have met. Everybody knows or knew a spoilt, overweight boy like Dudley or a bossy and interfering (yet kind-hearted) girl like Hermione. A large number of the younger readers will also be able to easily identify with Harry, especially with his initial feelings of isolation and not belonging, and then through to his excitement at finally leaving that life behind in favour of one where he belongs and will be happy.
When Harry begins his first term at Hogwarts (a wizarding school) he is not alone in being overawed:
‘Yeh’ll get yer firs’ sight of Hogwarts in a sec,’ Hagrid called over his shoulder, ‘jus’ round this bend here.’
There was a loud ‘Oooooh!”
The narrow path had opened suddenly on to the edge of a great black lake. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.
Harry Potter and the Sorcers’s Stone: The Journey From Platform Nine and Three-Quarters
Hogwarts is a truly magical place, not only in the most obvious way but also in all the detail that the author has gone to describe it so vibrantly. It is the place that everybody wishes they could of gone to when they were eleven. And there many adventures befall the trio (Harry, Ron and Hermione) and the stone in the book's title is centre to all that happens. The story builds towards and exciting conclusion that has the ultimate feel-good factor.
J.K. Rowling should be commended for getting so many people reading and excited by books. The biggest surprise must be the effect that this novel had on the adult population, both male and female - at the time the books were published many a commuting train was spotted with Harry Potter books providing world-weary workers with a wonderful sense of escapism. This book is highly recommended to anybody between the ages of 8 and 80.
Is all the hype about the Harry Potter books justified? In a word, yes, the books are a joy to read and possibly the most rewarding young adult’s book.

This book made me imagine, instead of football, what if there was Quidditch instead? This made me think of how the players on a football team are looking for one ball, but what if there was two? That would also mean that the other ball, that the seeker is looking for, would win the game. I would highly recommend this book to other young adults. The Harry Potter series keeps me entertained as well as they always keep you reading the book.

Since grade four, everyone has been telling me to read Harry Potter.
Finally, at thirteen, I decided to take their advice. I didn't regret it. All of the Harry Potter books are rich, interesting and very gripping. As in, can't-put-it-down-at 3-in-the-morning gripping.
Amazing!

After reading the first couple of chapters of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", the plot really pulled me in. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone" is filled with magic, adventure, fantasy, amazing characters and a fantastic plot. After I finished this book, I was immediately placed a hold for “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” which is the second book. I couldn’t stop reading “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. Every time I set the book down, I found myself picking it up again. I’ve read the series a couple of times now and “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” is a must-read, classic book. If you’ve only watched the movies, I would absolutely recommend reading the books because there is much more detail and some things weren’t included in the movies. I would recommend this book for ages 7+. Not to mention, the new art on the cover is beautiful!

“Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone” by J.K. Rowling is the first book in the 7 book Harry Potter series. In this book, Harry Potter receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry explaining his acceptance to the school. For several years Harry Potter was raised by his “Muggle” Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, after his parents died. After gaining the knowledge that Harry is in fact a Wizard, he learns a lot more about things he never knew, and how an evil, powerful wizard named “Voldemort” is somehow connected to him. In this book it is up to Harry to make decisions to save himself and the school from one of the most powerful wizards in the wizarding world. I strongly recommend starting this series at any age. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is an easy introduction to the rest of the series, and it just gets better. HPATPS is full of magic, adventure, friendship, bravery, overcoming evil, and love. This book opens up a new perspective on a wizarding world deemed to be fake in real life. The entire series helps put a new perspective on a world we found fake until opening this book and imagining it all for yourself. After reading this first book, you can profile yourself as a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw, and explore your house and who you are. Not only is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone a fantastic start to a fantastic series, it's a portal to a whole new world that you can live in for 7 books to forever.

What did Harry Potter know about magic? He was stuck living with the decidedly un-magical Dursleys, who hated him. He slept in a closet and ate their leftovers. But an owl messenger changes all that, with an invitation to attend the Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches, where it turns out Harry is already famous...

The novel opens with a description of the Dursley family, a middle-class family that lives in Little Whinging, Surrey. Vernon and Petunia Dursley are constantly worried that someone will find out about Petunia’s decidedly “unDursleyish” witch sister, Lily, and their worries are justified when Lily’s infant son, Harry, is left on their doorstep. Lily and her husband, James Potter, had been murdered by the dark wizard, Voldemort, but when Voldemort attempted to kill Harry, his power somehow broke. Harry becomes the only living person ever to survive the killing curse, and the only sign of his encounter with Voldemort is a unique lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead. Because Harry does not have any other living relatives, Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, decides to leave him with the Dursleys until he is old enough to attend Hogwarts.

He also finds out the real truth of his parent's death, and gets involved in a suspicious plot involving the attempted robbery of a very valuable object. What will become of him?
