When the literati decided back in the 1960s that Carl Sandburg wasn't actually up to snuff as a great US poet they did those who enjoy good poetry a terrible disservice. Because, after all, who wants to get caught reading a poet who's been labelled trivial by academians who couldn't make a pimple on his backside and whom history has proven almost completely wrong in all their pronouncements involving contemporary greatness. Sandburg will resurface when poetry re-emerges.
