The story was OK, but felt more like a review of a previous case already closed than an actual as it happened Spenser adventure. From the kidnapping to the final meeting with the anti-Spenser I never really felt that there was actual danger to any involved. In fact, the bad guy even says he will not threaten Susan at all and the cannon fodder is nothing but a distraction.
Spenser actually does some actual detective work, he figures out. But the entire time complains that this whole adventure makes no sense and I agree.
I don't know, even if you love Hawk and Susan in a story I'm not feeling the real Robert B Parker Spenser vibe. Everyone knows Spenser, everyone wants to get out of his way or help him. Oh well.
GOOD TALE, LOTS OF ACTION AND A SUITABLY EVIL CLIENT. THERE WOULD OBVIOUSLY BE A FOLLOWUP BUT FATE WOULD INTERVENE!
