Odin, Thor, and Loki walk into a bar. Bet you can't drink all this says the bartender, handing Thor a gigantic horn of ale. Just one tale to savor in this collection, though the bar is a giant's hall and the barkeep their host. Usually Thor takes a notion to adventure, and Loki tags along "for the brains."

Stark graphics in black, white, red, and gold totally convey the ferocity of Asgard (home to the Norse gods), Midgard (for mortals), Jotunheim (giant's realm), and Niflheim (land of the dead). Thank goodness for the clear informative way these stories are told. Quite the treat.

If you're new to Norse mythology, this book is a great place to start! Kevin Crossley-Holland is a master storyteller, but what really drew me into the stories were the gorgeous illustrations by Jeffrey Alan Love. The images are captivating and full of texture -- they make the stories really come alive. (Also - this is the perfect way to dive in deeper with Norse mythology if you're hooked after seeing Thor Ragnarok...just saying.)
