I used to love Joanna Trollope's books back in the days when I devoured the work of Maeve Binchy, Danielle Steele, Mavis Cheek and other writers of gentle domestic fiction. However, as my tastes changed and developed in different directions, I left her books behind, and lost interest in the eternal struggles of her characters to achieve domestic and professional balance.

City of Friends restored my interest in Joanna Trollope's novels. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her latest tale of modern women battling the challenges of careers, families, friendships while seeking to resolve their own senses of self. The novel is engaging in that it is told through the lens of different women, each one facing significant challenges and simultaneously wrestling with the tensions inherent in maintaining their well established friendships along the way.

I enjoyed this gentle story. It is a satisfying summer read.

Trollope's latest well told saga on women's choices and complicated lives.

Mid life crises from a female perspective and well done. This would make excellent TV viewing.

A bit disappointing from Trollope. The characters seemed so sketchily drawn I had trouble remembering who was who. Nothing nasty and a quick read but somehow I remember her being better than this.
