From Library Staff

A topically resonant album that touches on the disappointments of the American dream not fulfilled. Influenced by the 60’s and 70’s rock and country music of Alabama, Isbell captures the grittiness of human experience, infusing his songs with soul and power.

This is another fine release from Jason Isbell, well written and played by him and the 400 unit band. My only complaint about his releases is they all have some really great songs, but as a whole they are not in my estimation completely whole. I really like this performer,as a artist and as a person (I saw him on the Daily show a while back, and he is a real no bullshit kind of guy), and I expect great thing from him,but I'm still waiting for that killer release I know is in him,but he's getting closer.

This one's outta the park.
His rockers are not as well done as his quieter tunes. But his lyrics are, i dare say, stronger, more sensitive and poignant than ever,
