Loved this classic Nora Roberts book. Extremely fast read, easy to follow story and enough action to keep things interesting.

Nora Roberts is a GREAT author......she always has strong women & men roles, with suspense and predictability in her writing. The good guys always win..... which is comforting to me with all the evil and craziness that is in our world today.

I really enjoy Nora Roberts' (and J.D. Robb's) writing but this one was too predictable to me.

every once in a while I have a hankering for a Nora Roberts book. This one wasn't the one. Almost quit halfway through. Alice intrigued me though and her recovery. That was the only thing that kept me going. Don't think I'll have than hankering again if she keeps writing like this. Used to really enjoy her writing.

This book was a total flop. It was creepy and Ms. Roberts didn't bother fleshing out much of anything, plot, characters, etc. It was confusing. The characters are just so-so, and it was hard to work up any response. The two Grammies were pale imitations of the same grandmother, great grandmother characters in "The Liar". It's pretty sad that the most interesting characters were a horse and his owner....... If you insist on reading this, get it out of the Library, don't waste your money purchasing it.

This book was a big flop. I have read a lot of Nora Roberts books & loved them all. I kept looking at the cover to be sure she wrote this book & it wasnt someone else that maybe she just assisted on. After 50 pages I was going to return it, decided to stick with it a little longer, by 100 pages was convinced there was no story to this book at all. Nothing but the main character & her daily life running a business, how monotonous. I kept thinking I wanted to know about the missing people so decided to stick with it anyway. That part of the story was the mystery, not about what Bodine was eating for breakfast. She should have focused more on that part of the story of the missing & left out the day to day grind story. What a major disaster for Ms Roberts.

The book has an interesting concept in that it tells us about running a ranch and resort as a business. To make it interesting there is romance and suspense thrown in. Good idea but I wish the 'Suspense' did not involve so much violence.
The Bodines and Longbows run the ranch with three generations of women playing an active part. Alice leaves home never to return. Alice's life and the Bodines' are described in parallel till they coalesce in a horrifying way; will there be a happy ending? Read and find out!

I started out enjoying this book, but then had difficulty with the character of Bodine. The character was someone whom I could not like because she had to do everything and it seemed she was offended if someone else had an idea or a solution. After seeing the number of people waiting for this novel I decided to return it to the library and perhaps give it another try at another time.
