This novel contains a coherent plot and effective plot pacing, with rising tension prior to a climactic scene and falling tension proceeding. The final book of the Prince of Nothing series was lacking in these realms.
This is a solid book: probably a little bit better overall than The Warrior Prophet, if not quite as compelling as The Darkness that Comes Before. This is certainly worth the read and I will be pursuing the rest of the Aspect-Emperor series shortly.
