A powerful revenge fantasy, as well as a smart and poignant commentary on grief and the inadequacy of individual models of healing and recovery for dealing with systemic violence. Viola Davis brilliantly portrays a mother who has to decide whether to change her world or accept it as is.

Confusing even at the end

that would be "they're, not there" ..after all , this IS an institution of language and literature.
As for the movie, it was very predictable , well acted, but incredibly " are you kidding me" when it comes to reality and stupidity of those tracking the bad guys.
And whats with Jlo and her smoking in every movie lately?..

There both great actresses.

A devastated mother, whose son was murdered by a drug gang, turned "Charles Bronson ( Death Wish)" with encouragement from a sympathetic grief-sponsor Eve. Like Kitty, I was caught completely by surprise towards the end.

Viola Davis is reliably great, but the movie focuses so much on plot twists and gun violence that the better, more subtle moments lose impact. A nice premise full of wasted potential.

NOt one of Viola Davis better films. A pair of women become vigilantes after their children are killed. there is a twist at the end of the film. I did not expect it.

Story premise:
So, we're mothers. Our maternal instinct is to protect our child. And when the worst happens, when that child is murdered, we feel guilt, depression, we feel we failed. We lose our homes, our minds, and sometimes our lives. So get a sponsor. Find someone that you can talk to, get out, get a hobby, get to acceptance somehow so that you can get on to living, right?
Detective: Ms. Walcott. Yeah. You're here for an update. If you wouldn't mind. Uh, we canvassed the neighborhood, but, sorry to say, nothing yet. We're just gonna have to keep looking till we get the break we need, ma'am.
Lila: My son was just walking down the street. I have another son. What am I supposed to do?
Detective: If it were me, I'd move.
