#1 New York Times Bestseller

"Amy Schumer's book will make you love her even more. For a comedian of unbridled (and generally hilarious) causticity, Schumer has written a probing, confessional, unguarded, and, yes, majorly humanizing non-memoir, a book that trades less on sarcasm, and more on emotional resonance." -- Vogue

" The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo is an alternatingly meditative, sexually explicit, side-splittingly hilarious, heart-wrenching, disturbing, passionately political, and always staggeringly authentic ride through the highs and lows of the comedic powerhouse's life to date." -- Harper's Bazaar

"Amy's got your back. She's in your corner. She's an honesty bomb. And she's coming for you. "
--Actress Tilda Swinton and Trainwreck co-star

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now, Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of ( extremely ) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo , Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is--a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend--an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she's experiencing lust-at-first-sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor's secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably--but only because it's over.

According to Amy's can only use a routine once...because it would have been seen.
But Amy's book is also is duplicated on her stage performance. is not Jane Austin.

I guess I'm too old for the new generation of comedy. About a quarter of the way in I became disinterested in her destructive antics and could have cared less. I'm no prude, but I'm glad this "too much information" book wasn't around for my daughter to read. I would like to know how she feels about exposing so much of herself 20 years from now when, hopefully, she's a real grown-up.

Of course comedy is in the eye of the beholder. I like Joan Rivers, Mel Brooks, Garrison Keillor, George Carlin - much wittier and slapstick. She, as opposed to what some of the comments suggest, for me, is too tame and boring. She opened with her one and only "one night stand" and I thought so what, mine was more interesting, not much there.

The book is approx. 300 pages of wonderful mayhem. We get to learn from Amy's mistakes. John Bradshaw's "Bradshaw on : The Family" certainly comes into play here. (I think Amy mentioned weekly therapy since she was a teen?). But Amy has an incredibly sharp mind. I'll keep it short but every 19 year old girl will get a rant from me on why should she should read this book - it's entertaining and informative. Amy reps one of my fave quotes from George Bernard Shaw - "The secret to success is to offend the greatest number of people". Between Fey, Poehler, and my fave Sarah Silverman, it seems that the girls are starting to rule the world - not by war... but with laughs and smiles.

When I first heard about this book, I honestly thought: "Ugh! Everybody writes a book nowadays, whether they know how or not!" Well, after reading it I am a bit more enthusiastic about it. I like Amy Schumer overall as a comic. I think she tackles very important topics through her comedy and she is not afraid of showing her vulnerability and of making fun of herself. The stories - though not always funny - are often moving. I like that she writes about her parents and their faults, about her own weaknesses and mistakes, and about her hard struggle to become a comic. She certainly is an example of hard work, consistency, perseverance, and courage - and I truly admire her for that. I also like that she is not afraid of giving a list of politicians who take money from the gun lobby and of speaking and doing something about gun policy. I know that the style of the writing reflects the way she speaks onstage, but personally I would have appreciated a bit less cursing and vulgar words - but that is just me. I read "Bossy Pants" by Tina Fay some time ago and I think that both books let us enter the world of women's comedy and show us the courage and the strength required to stay in it with success.

I have as much desire to read this as I do a book about Oprah. She is just plain gross. I guess I would sleep with her but I would be sure to wrap it and hold my nose the entire time.

I did not like this book. I gave it about 40 pages and about 35 too many. It was raunchy and was a horrible role model for women of any age with her suggestion and encouragement for one night stands, foul language and a lot of boring content such as her childhood stuffed animals. I chose this book expecting humor but received conviction by reading it. I do not recommend this author.

I feel like I know Amy Schumer's vagina intimately. Kinda much of the same. I did laugh a few times, I did also cry and I said "me too!!" when she said she always wanted to look like Charlize Theron, but not like Charlize Theron in Monster! lol

If you are looking for advice or a self-help book, this isn’t the book for you. However, if you are looking for a funny book that is real, raw, and relatable; THIS IS IT!!!

In Amy Schumer’s first adult non-fiction book The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, she takes us down memory lane and shares stories from her life as a “daughter, sister, friend, comedian, actor, girlfriend, one0night stand, employee, employer, lover, fighter, hater, pasta eater, and wine drinker (Schumer: 1). Part autobiography, part memoir, Amy lets us in to her personal life and shares some pretty intimate details with her readers. Crude and rude language is often used throughout the book making this a product for mature audiences, while reader discretion is advised. I frequently laughed out loud while reading Amy’s book as I found I could relate too many of her horror/raunchy stories. Her clear, comical, and witty writing makes you keep flipping through the pages in order to find out more of her dirty secrets and crazy stories. This book is great for anyone who needs a good laugh and expresses a free-thinking viewpoint (especially for women over the age of 20). I loved this book! I really can’t say this enough. I loved this book! I felt like numerous times I was reading my life across the pages. Amy’s writing is real, raw, and truly relatable for many female readers. I would rate this book 5 stars out of 5 stars.

“I know my worth. I embrace my power. I say if I'm beautiful. I say if I'm strong. You will not determine my story. I will. ...I am amazing for you, not because of you. I am not who I sleep with. I am not my weight. I am not my mother. I am myself. And I am all of you.”

“Neal’s apartment went far beyond endearingly dirty. It was like Jumanji…I stalled … marveling for a moment at the fact that a man so expertly coiffed and immaculately molded, could emerge from this bottom-of-an-orangutan cage bathroom every morning.”

"If it's hot, we drink white wine and tequila; if it's cold, we drink red wine and scotch and tequila. So, basically, we always weigh around the same. I usually weigh anywhere between one hundred forty-five pounds and six million pounds."

"I lie to a lot of Uber drivers and tell them I'm pregnant so they will drive safer. They don't know I'm not and really neither do I. I guess I could be."

"Women are always expected to be the gracious hostess, quick with an anecdote and a sprinkling of laughter at others' stories. We are always the ones who have to smooth over all the awkward moments in life with soul-crushing pleasantries. We are basically unpaid geishas. But when we do not fulfill this expectation (because we are introverted), people assume we must be either depressed or a c**t. Maybe I'm a c**t anyway, but it's not because I don't want to blink and smile at someone as they tell me they ran cross-country in middle school."

dad took a sharp right turn and beelined it to the side of the hall. I stopped walking and turned to see what he was doing. He shot me a pained look, pulled his pants down, and peed shit out of
