Awkward Ed Wallis moves to a new town with his single mom and needs help fitting in. Brainier than his peers, Ed figures playing high school football might be a good way to make more friends, but his only new friend, Eloise, thinks it's odd. When Ed gets an assignment to write an essay about someone from an older generation, he introduces himself to his neighbor, Ashby Holt, and the two embark on an unlikely, immediate friendship. Ashby's style of tough love takes some getting used to.

this is mickey rourke's film, perfectly cast as 'ashby,' a retired hit man; not so retired, as he discovers one of his hits was of an innocent man. he takes retribution on his former partners......

I enjoyed the movie. Without Mickey Rourke it wouldn't have been nearly as good. I can't imagine anybody playing that role better.
