Iggy Pop's seventeenth album is a worthy addition to the legacy he has created as both a solo artist and with The Stooges. It bears the musical DNA of Pop and his collaborator and producer, Queens of the Stone Age's Joshua Homme.

I caught Iggy on a episode of Austin City Limits a while back, and in the closing interview he stated if he was doing his swan song, this was the band to do it with, as they were going to make a statement. And what a statement they made, this is the best Iggy album since New Values (1979), where he started this segment of his musical journey, but after that, he really fell into a rut, and was becoming a parody of his persona, and a lot of us wrote him off.
But here he is the old Iggy, wordy, guttural, Jim Morrison like, and he's fronting a great rock band, the guys got lineage, having fronted the Stooges in the late sixties and seventies, so he had something, and here he finds it again.

Well, Iggy made a statement that he's not going to leave without a good fight and this album is one of his best, remaining at top 20s around the glob. For new listeners (those not from the 70's) being familiar with alternative / punk rock will help to understand what the composer is doing here but generally music is a personal preference and there's no right or wrong about the musician's feeling while writing and arranging the songs. Iggy Pop and David Bowie made lots of collaborations in the past and inspired each other and this album is very close to Bowie's style. Enjoy.
