From Library Staff
Any graphic novel written or illustrated by Raina Telgemeier is sure to be an instant hit among tween readers. This graphic novel, though, has been met with some resistance. Some have taken issue with what they see as inappropriate content related to sexuality.
Location of key challenge: Mount Pleasant, Texas, Chapel Hill Elementary School. Reason: sexual content.
Callie loves being the set designer for her middle school play “Moon Over Mississippi.” She experiences some personal drama when she wonders if Jesse is interested in her as more than a friend, or if he’s gay like his twin brother Justin.
One of the most frequently challenged books of 2014 for being sexually explicit - even though the sexiest scene is a simple kiss between two characters.
