I honestly didn't know how he would tackle a country with such a difficult past but Mr. Ferguson does an amazing job of providing an accurate unfiltered view of the genocide while mixing it with enough humor to allow the reader to have the occasional reading break. I can not explain how many times I read something that shocked me by me thinking "how could I not have heard about this? How could this have not been in the mainstream media". Several times I even looked it up on the internet to check if it was accurate but each time he was proven to have accurately conveyed the information...the mainstream western media just didn't care about what was happening in Rwanda.

A delightful mix of humour and history. Ferguson is a great storyteller - self-deprecating and insightful.

History, hate and humour; Will Ferguson has combined these unlikely matches to tell the story of Rwanda since the 1990s. The children of murderers now play with children of those murdered.
May they live in peace in their beautiful country.

A book about Rwanda is not an easy read but this book addresses the genocide but concentrates on the Rwanda of today with much hope. Jean-Claude is a hero. It is unbelievable what he went through and what he did for others then and now. I recommend this book to win the Alberta Choice Awards.

An incredible journey by the author and a former Rwandan, back to the city and area where the genocide happened. A short beginning chapter gives an excellent overview of the times and beliefs leading to the genocide, but the book that follows focuses primarily on how the country was rebuilt. And that in itself is an incredible story. The statistics regarding literacy and gender equality are heartening, as is the emphasis on environmental concerns. It gives a ray of hope that good can eventually overcome what was an incredibly evil time. Kudos to the author as well as Jean-Claude, his friend and the person who helped him understand the roots as well as the humanity of the past in Rwanda.

I did not know alot about the Rwandan situation. Very good book and also funny but tragic at the same time.

Insightful and easy to follow, Road Trip Rwanda offers both a harrowing glimpse of Rwanda's infamous past and an uplifting snapshot of the country's recent development. I really enjoyed Will Ferguson's self-deprecating humour and empathized with the victims whose lives and circumstances the author candidly portrayed.
