Add a QuoteParminder: How much did your heart surgery cost? Your stay in hospital? All the staff, the drugs, the medication you are on now, how much did that cost?
Howard: What?
Parminder: And you're supposed to honour that work that's done on you by staying below a certain weight, but you don't, you eat and eat and eat, you're practically mainlining foie gras into your eyeballs. ... So all that medication has to be doubled, trebled, because you've made a lifestyle choice and it all costs, right down to that cream for that disgusting rash under your belly, hundreds and hundreds of thousands of $pounds. ... Which means that you, Howard, are a bloody hypocrite!
Barry stood up to make his case on the development of Sweetlove House: ... The parish council's not here to make a quick buck for somebody who already has more than enough. We are the guardians of something unique. We are the custodians and the stewards of a shining principle. We do not turn our backs and look away from people in need. Our vote is in response to a simple question enshrined in law. In law. Is the legacy still of benefit? Yes. It has never been so important. Never! When we vote, we must vote to protect it. It's that simple.

It’s hard to cram a book into a movie...I read the book which I loved... the movie was not bad...especially with the Crystal switch...
I really liked this film. It is not a shy movie. It will rub your face in the grit, scandal, cruelty and humor in the town of Pagford. When Barry Fairbrother suddenly dies, the fate of the local community center lands on unsteady ground. It starts a series of cascading events that are both darkly humorous and tragic.
If you need explosions, car chases and gun fights, you will not find them here. But if you are a fan of the BBC, this is your film.
This is peopled by some very unpleasant characters with a couple of exceptions. I did watch it to see where it was going, but it was distasteful and with a very sad twist I did not see coming.
Mean, petty, shallow, uncaring people. Yuck. Class snobbery, under valuing and misinterpreting people because it’s easy. Excellent performances. “Especially Abigail Lawrie, as Krystal, the Anne Boleyn of Pagford”.
Terrible movie, I stopped after 15 minutes. I like Michael Gambon but this was far from his best. A trite, overly done story of the rich manipulating the lower classes. Ho hum, this has been done so many times it is a cliché. Just a bunch of people treating each other badly. I can see that in real life I don't have to watch a movie.
Didn't waste my time after 20 pages of the book and 10 min. of the movie.
Rated 1/10. One word: 'Inexplicable'.
If you are a "block-buster person", give this a miss. This is a fabulous film for you if you like an incredible presentation of an honest story with strong aspects of social commentary and the injustice of wealth in our societies. There is some grit, but nothing that is gratuitous. The character studies are incredible and the story so amazing. Reminiscent of 'The Street' combined with a little of Dickens social conscience, this story will stay with you for days as you unravel the complexity and beauty of this mini series.
Terrible film- I was expecting a lot more from the author of Harry Potter.
