Seems that critics dislike it because of flawed characters, snake-oil faith-healers and time jumps etc. But can't deny that the film has an original story that takes place in unfamiliar Manitoba, frigid Canada and accomplished actors. In the young single mom's shoes under the same circumstances, what different choices would we make at every turn ... besides leave for sunny Southern USA ASAP? A thought provoking social drama of offbeat people, circumstances and place.

Not one of these characters was the least bit likable (Spoiler Alert - except for grandpa and the youngest son but they were bit parts and died pretty early on).

This was a beautiful heartbreaking film - I loved it and it's story stayed with me for days - outstanding acting by the entire cast

Really well done! Great story, superb acting and unlike any other film. Written and directed by a female Peruvian Artist who is no doubt destined for greatness.

The landscapes, the falcons, the poetic story of human relationships is epic in its beauty. Highly recommended.

Artsy movie. Watch it if you're a Jennifer Connelly or Cillian Murphy fan. It's rated R but I didn't see anything that justifies such a strict rating. It's more PG-13 ... but a teenager might not enjoy the story.

But his feelings, Alana. He never comes first.
- Yeah. Well... He doesn't need to. Do him good to learn that. Ivan's strong. He can handle it.
You think you know everything. He's just a boy.
===
You need to start looking at things a little bit differently here, just for your son's sake.
-Differently?
Yeah.
-How?
For Gully's sake. Try accepting it.
===
You might not want to help me exactly, and I respect that, but I couldn't not try.
===
They say you're not a falconer unless you know how to sew, but he used to have me do it for him on the sly.
===
She doesn't heal people. You know that, right?
-No! I don't, and neither do you.
===
Think it through. What about Ivan?
- We'll both have to find a way to give meaning to all of it.
Hmm. Well, explain that to him.
===
Right now everything is incomprehensible. I have a boy who hasn't even lived yet. What was he born for? To die?
===
Ivan, you're a strong boy. You've always fended for yourself.
===
Well, he's a hawk. He's born to hunt.

Newman Loslein, who was your mentor and guide, instilled in you the idea of art and nature as a means of healing. And I'm assuming part of his teachings touch on love. Could you elaborate a little bit on that?
-I'm not interested in elaborating. You're asking me to perform, like, pluck love out of the sky and examine it for you. It's not what I do.
===
What's your favorite color? What, um... Yeah, what book had the greatest
influence on your work? How's life been?
===
I came here because I wanted to see what would happen. Simple as that. Because I knew you wouldn't come to me. And I thought maybe you'd crumble like one of your goddamn sculptures, but you're not that easy to break, are you? You'll just pick up the pieces and start all over again.
-Isn't that how life works?
Is that how life works? No! What am I? What am I? I'm just the collateral damage for all your life's good work.
===
I didn't want him to die.
-Ivan. Ivan, it was too much to bear. It was too much to bear, Ivan.
