In a house haunted with memories, gangster and father Ulysses Pick arrives home after a long absence towing the body of a teenage girl and a bound and gagged young man. His gang waits inside his house, having shot their way past police. There is friction in the ranks. Ulysses, however, is focused on one thing: journeying through the house, room by room, and reaching his wife Hyacinth in her bedroom upstairs. His odyssey becomes an emotional tour as more is revealed about the Pick family.

94 minutes of my life I will never get back...& I don't say that about many things. Just an awful movie, don't bother unless you have seen every single movie ever made before!

First of all, I don't think Canadian director Guy Maddin is trying to rip off David Lynch, despite what others may think. Both are inspired by the surrealists, but Maddin is drawing far more on old silent films and melodrama than Lynch. As a fan of his visually striking, sometimes odd, often perplexing films, I was pretty disappointed with this one, which is sort of a film noir by way of "The Odyssey." Jaosn Patric sleepwalks through the title role, while Maddin regular Isabella Rossellini plays his wife. You'd be better off watching "The Saddest Music in the World" or "Brand Upon the Brain!"

I loved this film. One I can watch many times over. The black&white adds to the time period element. The different ghosts and the many different states of being they held. Surreal is good!!

What a train wreck. Do not walk -- RUN from this disaster. An art house piece (of crap). Utter nonsense. Sorry old people; I hold you in the highest regard, and I love you guys... Yours was "The Greatest Generation", without question. But I SO don't want to witness your *junk* displayed so blatantly in any movie, anytime, any place... Again, my apologies. No disrespect intended. Simply my personal preference. And to Isabella -- "Blue Velvet" this ain't.

Funny in parts, head-shaking in parts, but if you enjoy Guy Maddin flicks it should make you happy.

The worst movie I have seen in a long time. Tries so hard to get the David Lynch atmosphere but fails miserably. Bad.

an uninteresting Lynch clone

This film by avant-garde Canadian director Guy Maddin was shot in black and white. There is not much a story here - a group of people and ghosts trapped inside a big house, one filled with lots of 'memories'. Some people will find it a waste of time but I found it engaging enough to sit right through it. Worth seeing for Maddin's style of movie making - surreal, abstract - if nothing else. Definitely not eveyone's cup of tea, though.

Pretty freaking weird movie if you want my opinion. I watched it but there is not much point to these 94 minutes of viewing. Maybe I keep trying to make sense of it all. You have been warned.
