I enjoyed this story very much, as the characters were all interesting and flawed and real. I was worried that I'd hate the ending, but was actually very pleased with how the story was wrapped up.
I do agree with other commenters about the poor quality of the audio version, as it was very hard to understand everything while dealing with car noise. But I don't blame it all on the reader, as the producer should be able to adjust the volume to make it better to hear.
Bad, bad audio recording, barely audible, inflections on the wrong words.
Supposed to be some aussie actor. Worst I have ever heard, and his accent is so strong and regional.
I loooove this story! And I usually love books on CD but the narrator was awful! His accent was hard to understand most of the time and I had to turn the volume up so loud to just hear his mumbling/whispering. If a book was available I would've given up on the CD's but I just couldn't stop!
I enjoyed reading this story. It pulls you in to their lives and decisions, and you find yourself making up reasons for what they did and makes you think of how you would feel in their shoes. An excellent read.
Great story! All the characters were struggling with what life offers and the ending was the best. I would put this on my top ten fiction list. Would so recommend this book! I will offer a warning to any audible listeners that it can be difficult to understand due to the narrator's accent and whispering. With that being said, I still enjoyed it!
I enjoyed the story, but the audiobook version was extremely difficult to hear. The reader's voice was inconsistent and would often become almost a whisper so I couldn't understand what he was saying. I was constantly turning the volume up loud and then down when he spoke in his normal voice. I would rate the audiobook version 1 star and the story 4 stars.
I was so excited to listening to this on CD in my car - it was recommended on a free reading list from the library. Unfortunately the reader was TERRIBLE. I couldn't understand what he was saying half the time because he actually mumbled! :( I had to keep turning the volume up...but it was tedious to try to concentrate, so I'll have to read this title in paper form, I guess.
It was a fairly good story, however the reader was the WORST. This rather ruined it for me. His voice volume jumped around so I was forever adjusting my IPOD volume. I highly recommend that, if you read it, READ it instead of listening.
This book is a reminder that life is sometimes hard...and we must live with our mistakes. Great book.
The unique setting of this book is a lighthouse on Janus Island, which is off the coast of Australia where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet (hence the title). I loved the details about nature and the weather on this remote outpost. The story is about a young couple (the lightkeeper and his wife) who discover a boat washed up on shore with a dead man and a living baby inside. What would you do if your young wife had had 3 miscarriages and was pining for a baby? A really thought provoking first novel by M. L. Stedman.
What a gem! Stedman's first novel.
Everyone talked about this book. We are all waiting for her to write again!
Well done audio production of a heartbreaking story about choices we make for the family we love.
