This gripping, engaging docudrama follows Churchill in the 96 hours leading up to D-Day. Powerful is the performance of Brain Cox as the prime minister who had a disastrous experience at Gallipoli.

Very interesting, but I did not know Churchill was apposed to the D Day landing. We had to stop the Nazi's. The portrayer had to smoke a lot of cigars. Lots of friction with the generals. Bonus features interesting. I always thought…

The biggest lie of this movie about D-Day and Churchhill is that he fell into the 'Generals always fight the last war' trap. Sorry, but if that was true Hitler would already have won. If you know nothing about the Churchhill you need to…
I am wait-listed for the DVD but just finished "Churchill and Orwell, The Fight for Freedom" by
Thomas Ricks. It is excellent because I gained a new perspective on Churchill. England would have gone fascist without him. The Elite wanted…

Churchill lovers hate this movie, however it does illustrate how the myth of Churchill's brilliance was really just that. Most would love to forget his past military debacles and concentrate on his brilliant speeches which were so…

I watched the bonus material (interviews with director and actors). The key question is: Did Churchill oppose Operation Overlord? The movie people say he did. Other viewers say he did not, and that the whole movie is either inaccurate or a…

A confounding portrayal of the World War 2 leader behind the myth of Winston Churchill. A gripping presentation of the interactions between U.S. General Dwight Eisenhower, British Field Marshall Montgomery, Prime Minister Churchill, and…

If you believe this story a bunch of drunks were running the war and they kept having hissy fits to do so. I just don't find it very inspiring or realistic.

There is a difference between historical inaccuracies and outright lies. This movie demonstrates the difference. Churchill in the underground in the movie "Darkest Hours" is an example of the former. This movie is the latter. And it is…
Watched the film. Then researched the facts. Wish it had been the other way around. If you have multiple DVD's from the library and are running out of viewing time....take this one back and do not bother with this film.
Awful flick. Basically total fantasy. I believe it was one of the producers that stated they wanted to provide a different view of PM Churchill. Too bad it was so badly acted and a total lie!

I guess I liked this film more than a lot of the critics. I thought Brian Cox proved he was a great actor as he went from a reasonable man to a horrible man to a near cripple as the emotions called for. I didn't realize that it was Miranda…
1. in some communities, Great Men can be used as a test for loyalty, which in its turn is a test for being ' part of the community.' so someone will assign themselves , or be assigned to, ask you a question, such as, "What do you think…

Winston Churchill has had four movies portraying his life. There was "Young Winston", "The Crown", "The Darkest Hour" and "Churchill". Brian Cox is my favorite actor of Churchill. He is the only one of the actors to be the same age as…

Cinematography, costumes, and art direction: wonderful. Acting: quite good, but not great. Story: interesting. Historic Accuracy: Awful. Churchill's biographer said the filmmakers could not have gotten more wrong. Others with great…

Well acted, very interesting story. I've read a lot of WWII books (both historical novels and history) and lived in London while I devoured WWII history. I learned a lot from this movie. A big example was how important his wife, Clemmie,…
